At the Chamber of Deputies, ICCF Mexico convened the installation of the National Steering Committee for the project Enhancing Political Will for Sustainable Protected Areas Financing, in coordination with UNEP and with support from the GEF.

The meeting brought together members of the Mexican Conservation and Sustainable Development Caucus—Deputy Joaquín Zebadúa Alva, Deputy Alejandra Chedraui, Deputy Gabriela Benavides, and Deputy Jesús Martín Cuanalo—along with representatives from government, civil society, and the technical community. Pedro Álvarez Icaza, Commissioner of CONANP, also participated.

The Committee was formally established to advance a shared agenda for the financial sustainability of Mexico’s protected areas. Participants reviewed progress from other countries and outlined a strategic roadmap for national implementation, identifying priorities to strengthen legislative, institutional, and financial frameworks for conservation.
