From September 1–4, 2026, the workshop “Parques Nacionales Naturales en la Patria Milagro” was held as a collaborative working space focused on strengthening the conservation, management, and financial sustainability of Colombia’s protected areas within the National System of Natural Parks.
The workshop was supported by the ICCF Group through the project “Enhancing Political Will for Sustainable Protected Areas Financing,” funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and executed by ICCF Colombia in the country.
The workshop brought together national and territorial teams to conduct a comprehensive and participatory assessment of the state of protected areas, identify key pressures, gaps, opportunities, and management needs, and establish priorities for action in the short, medium, and long term.
Through a process that moved from assessing individual protected areas to a territorial and, subsequently, national perspective, participants worked to develop territorial maps and a national priority map organized around three strategic areas: water, biodiversity, and communities.
The process culminated in the definition of national priorities, institutional agreements, and a roadmap for action, incorporating financial sustainability as a fundamental element for ensuring the effective management of protected areas over the long term.
