The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and CCN collaborated to host a National Conservation Trust Fund (NCTF) Knowledge Sharing Seminar in The Commonwealth of Dominica on September 27th, 2022.

The objective of the seminar was to bring together OECS National Conservation Trust Funds (NCTFs) to share lessons learnt and experiences on CBF, MPAs, and financing and to provide key guiding support to the Steering Committee of the new Dominica NCTF from Pre-Financing to Partnership Agreement and Matching Funding Requirement ideas. Topics included current status and draft action plan, sustainable finance mechanisms, match requirements, a case study, fundraising strategies, regional voluntary guidelines for MPA management and the role for NCTFs, and a roadmap for cooperation among MPAs and NCTFs.

Key participants included Dr. Volker Hamann, Head of Programme Sustainable Marine Financing (St. Lucia) and Brendan Defoe, National Project Officer of Dominica of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Ms. Eleanor Phillips, Director, External Affairs Caribbean of the The Nature Conservancy and Ms. Tanja Liew, Conservation Finance Program Manager of the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund, Ms. Jennifer James, CEO of the Grenada Sustainable Development Trust Fund and Mr. Roland Baldeo, Executive Director of the Grande Coral Reef Foundation, The Marine Ecosystem Protected Area Trust Inc of Antigua & Barbuda represented by Ms. Sasha Middleton (CEO), Mr. Harold Dalson (Chairman) of the Soufriere Marine Management Association (SMMA) and Mr. Craig Henry (CEO) of the St. Lucia National Conservation Fund, the Director (Ag) of the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Mr. Shane Kirton - CARPHA.
