Vice-presidents of the Amazon Parliament and Friends of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) met on March 11 and 12 in Brazil, with the support of the ICCF Group.
The Secretariat of the Amazon Parliament (PARLAMAZ) and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), with the support of the ICCF Group, called a meeting of parliamentarians from Amazonian countries to plan the necessary steps for the integration of PARLAMAZ into the structure of the ACTO. This was an opportunity for parliamentarians to share their legislative priorities to address common problems and find solutions for the Amazon.
Authorities, representatives of partner companies and NGOs, and parliamentarians from Brazil, Colombia, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia met on March 11 and 12, 2025, in Brasília.
On March 11, the PARLAMAZ Board of Directors met, with the participation of the president, Senator Nelsinho Trad, and the vice-presidents of all countries. At this meeting, the thematic priorities for the Parliament's work in 2025 were discussed within the framework of the Summit of Presidents of the Amazon Countries (Bogotá, Colombia) and COP30 (Belém, Brazil). Furthermore, those present discussed the institutional link between PARLAMAZ and ACTO.
On March 12, the Parliamentary Group of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization of the Brazilian Congress (GPOTCAM) was installed in Brazil. The president and secretariat of the Amazon Parliament, the vice-presidents of PARLAMAZ, the leadership of ACTO, representatives of the embassies of the Amazon countries in Brasilia, members of the GPOTCAM, and representatives of NGOs and multilateral organizations were invited as listeners.
In this same session, presentations were held on relevant topics and a series of debates on legislative priorities for GPOTCAM. Mr. Keith Alger, representative of ACTO and Vice President of Global Strategy, ICCF Group welcomed those present.
The topics discussed were: “International Negotiations and their Impacts on the Amazon,” “Integrated Fire Management,” and “Discussion and construction of commitments by Parlamaz and ACTO”. Participants also sought to define concrete and tangible commitments that could be presented at COP30 on Climate Change and/or integrated into the agenda of the Amazon Parliament in collaboration with ACTO.
