Mexico City, March 11, 2025 – Under the leadership of 20 legislators from the Senate of the Republic and the Chamber of Deputies, the installation of the Mexican Caucus for Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development took place, marking a milestone in the legislative commitment to the conservation and restoration of natural capital and the promotion of sustainable development in Mexico.

Deputy Marcela Guerra Castillo, Founder and Co-Chair of the first Environmental Conservation Caucus in the LXIII Legislature, began the event by reviewing the achievements of the Caucus in Mexico from 2016 to the present.

Afterward, Senator Maki Esther Ortiz Domínguez, President of the Caucus for Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development in the LXVI Legislature, celebrated the start of the initiative and made the formal declaration of installation.
Also speaking were Senator Alejandro Murat Hinojosa and Senator Karen Castrejón Trujillo, Vice Presidents of the Caucus, as well as the Co-Presidents from the Chamber of Deputies: Laura Ballesteros Mancilla, Alejandra Chedraui Peralta, Gabriela Jiménez Godoy, and Jesús Cuanalo Araujo.

In attendance were Senator Alejandro González Yáñez, Senator Gina Gerardina Campuzano González, Senator Ivideliza Reyes Hernández, Senator Juanita Guerra Mena, Senator Laura Itzel Castillo Juárez, Senator Sasil de León Villard, Deputy Daniel Chimal García, Deputy Humberto Ambriz Delgadillo, Deputy Maggie Salgado Ponce, Deputy Miguel Ángel Sánchez Rivera, Deputy Ruth Maricela Silva Andraca, and Deputy Xóchitl Nashielly Zagal Ramírez.
Special guests included MP Barry Gardiner, Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Conservation of the UK Parliament, and Congresswoman Julia Miranda, Co-Chair of the Colombian Caucus for Environmental Conservation. They shared their experiences with the Caucus model and emphasized the importance of strengthening legislative collaboration on the environmental agenda at the international level.
The legislators were accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), and civil society organizations working on environmental issues.
The Caucus for Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development represents an opportunity to promote multi-sectoral dialogue, negotiation, and analysis to strengthen relevant legislation using the best available information and fostering the involvement of all interested parties.
ICCF Group will serve as the Technical Secretariat for this Caucus, responsible for organizing training and technical support activities, including multi-sectoral dialogue tables, field visits to strengthen knowledge, exchanges of international experiences, and the generation of specialized technical inputs.
This effort reaffirms the commitment of legislators from various political parties to environmental conservation and sustainable development and underscores the importance of joint work to address current environmental challenges for the benefit of present and future generations.
